Water side Chapel was purchases in March 2023. It has taken us around 12 months to get the current position, but we will continue to develop the Chapel for the benefit of future generations.
When we purchase the property extensive surveys were undertaken to assess the damage, building stability and cost of the renovation. Amongst the general work the survey identified:
- It needed a new roof
- The existing electrics were unsafe and needed stripping and rewiring, with the added installation of fire alarms
- The internal floors and stairs were deemed structurally unsafe and needed removing.
- The windows, previously bricked up, needed replacing.
So this was a back to bricks and mortar story and we needed very deep pockets to complete the work. The pictures below provides an idea of the scale of the renovation required, together with a visual of how the Chapel used to look prior to work commencing.
There have been numerous people who have helped with the build, but most of the work was completed by Vikki De Maine, Vikki’s husband Stuart Grennan, local tradesman and guru Alex Whiles, and Bill Roberts (Vikki’s dad). Sadly Bill passed away in early 2024, but we both thank him from the bottom of our hearts of all his work and his memory will always live on in the building.
